Touching the Bases With Nate Eastman: Road Warriors and Extra Inning Thrillers
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here as I spent the last week on the road in western New York playing The Geneva Twins, Geneva Redwings, and the Rochester Ridgemen. We certainly have had quite a few extra-inning thrillers this past week. Last Tuesday we played an 11-inning bout against the Twins after they came back to score 2 runs in the 9th to tie the game. They ended up beating us in 11 innings that game after there was a double hit down the line scoring the winning run from second.
We also had another thriller against the Twins after their ace went 8 innings striking out 14 batters, we had our last ups in the top of the 9th down 6-1 with the Twins changing pitchers. Our team strung together great at bats and we were able to score two runs to make it 6-3 and I stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and one out.
I hadn’t had a good game (to say the least) up to that point, but when I stepped in the batters box I had felt more comfortable then I did the whole game, and I was able to hit a single to score two runs, and later that inning scored the go ahead run. We were able to push one more run making the score 8-6 but unfortunately couldn’t shut the door losing to another walk off hit, 9-8.
We were able to get a little revenge in a 15-inning thriller where we won on a walk off hit to win the game by the score of 1-0.
The next three games we play the Oneonta Outlaws, which are always games that I look forward to. We play a double header tonight in Sherrill, another game in Sherrill on Wednesday at the beautiful Noyes Park in Sherrill, along with a game in Oneonta on Thursday night.
Check back tomorrow to hear the excitement from tonight’s double header.
