After a hard rain during the third inning both our double headers were called off yesterday. Since we did not reach the 5th inning of those games we will have to start the game over. We now will have a double header tomorrow June 26 and another double-header later in the season to make up those games.

Today I wanted to take the time to reflect on the first third of the season. Consistency is a very important quality when aiming to be successful in the game of baseball. The Smitties and I have had our struggles with staying consistent game to game whether it’s our pitching, hitting, or defense. One thing that makes it tough for summer league teams staying consistent is everyone needs their fair share of playing time. Since this league is about exposure and improvement, sometimes our team des not send the most talented 9 players out on the field. It's also tough for some players to in a groove when some players don’t play everyday and others didn’t get much playing time during their school season.

One thing is for sure; we have to get better in all aspects of the game if we want to accomplish what we set out to do this season. The beauty of it is there’s still a good two-thirds of the season left to prove what we can do. Our guys are going to stay confident and humble at the same time, while working every day to get this team to where it needs to being.

I was sad to see our winning streak come to an end last week. We had an embarrassing picture that hung up in our dugout of catcher/outfielder Matt Ederle smirking during batting practice that was taken before one of our games during the year. Our manager just happened to get his hands on it first and taped it next to the line up before our first win and it didn’t come down for almost two weeks. It was something that brought a little humor to the team during a tough stretch of early games.

So far college summer baseball season has presented me with the opportunity to build lasting relationships with so many players and coaches this year. This is a team with a great group of kids that I love to show up to the park and go to battle with in the day to day grind of summer baseball.
