NY’s Largest Ski Mountain Building an Amazing ‘Rail Zipline’ Ride!
The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created in 1980 to oversee the facilities associated with the Olympics. They continue to make sure the facilities are purposefully reimagined to keep the communities and mountains enticing. Now they are involved in making a new ride at Gore mountain, the largest in the state.
What New and Exciting Ride will Be Built at Gore?
The Cliffside Coaster that runs along the old Lake Placid bobsled course was built a few years ago and this new ride is similar. The ORDA has a huge part in getting that ride built and now they will build the new Rail Zipline according to the Times Union. This is like no other of its kind. It is a combination of a chair lift, zipline, and the Cliffside Coaster all in one. It will be a year-round attraction at Gore Mountain.
A New Lodge is Also Planned
Over ten years ago a fire destroyed the main lodge and a new facility is needed. The new lodge will be at the base of the Ski Bowl on the site of the original one. The new lodge will overlook the ski hill and have a large outdoor deck that can be used all year, a dining area, rental and retail shops, and bathrooms. This will take more time to build. The hope is that it will be finished by summer 2023.
Where Is The Money Coming From and What else will be Done?
The Governor announced last month that Gore Mountain would receive thirty million dollars in development funds. This will also go to building a new trail from the top of Burnt Ridge to the base of the main mountain. This would allow skiers and snowboarders to bypass the Echo Trail. This trail is usually closed because it is the main race hill at Gore. It should be done by next season as well.
