There's a new chart from naturalsociety.com showing what the average American eats every year. Below, you can check out what we swallow:
- 42 pounds of corn syrup
- 85 pounds of fat and oils
- 181 pounds of milk
- 31 pounds of cheese
- 32 pounds of eggs
- 16 pounds of fish
- 73 pounds of poultry
- 110 pounds of red meat
- 273 pounds of fruit
- 415 pounds of vegetables
- 58 pounds of corn
- 134 pounds of wheat flour
- 24 pounds of coffee

Getting more specific, the average American eats:
- 29 pounds of french fries each year
- 23 pounds of pizza
- 24 pounds of ice cream
- 53 gallons of soda

Boy, we sure do love our red meat, french fries, fake sweeteners and soda.  I was surprised to find the veggie and fruit consumption seems so high.  Does this mean we're actually eating better than we thought?  Nah.  We're eating so much other junk that I'm not sure that sprig of broccoli is doing much good.  You know it's funny, in this day and age of information, we KNOW how we should be eating but can't seem to bring ourselves to do the right thing.  We wouldn't have any problem if all the healthy foods tasted much better than the junky stuff.  Of course there's no profit in that for the big companies.  They do much better if we are fat, unhealthy and need their products to feel better.
