Every New York Giant and Buffalo Bills fan will remember Super Bowl XXV for different reasons including WIDE RIGHT by Scott Norwood. It was the first of four consecutive SB losses by Buffalo. So let's remember what happened before the game in Tampa. I'm talking about Whitney Houston's rendition of the National Anthem.

Whitney Houston's voice was among the greatest of all time and when she died on February 11, 2012, the world was left completely shocked. From her first album which was released in 1985 to her last in 2009, Whitney was one of the best-selling musicians ever, selling an amazing 200 million records all over the world.

It was 31 years ago today (January 27th), Whitney Houston performed her famous version of The Star Spangled Banner before the 1991 Super Bowl game between the Buffalo Bills and the New York Giants. But, the performance almost didn't happen.

The first Gulf War started ten days before the Super Bowl and the country was divided and tense. Jim Steeg was the NFL’s senior vice president of special events and he wasn't sure if playing the National Anthem before the game was a good idea.

President George H.W Bush "insisted" that the Super Bowl should still be sung before the Bills and the Giants game. It turns out the Steeg was worrying about nothing because the crowd went WILD.

Whitney Houston's Super Bowl 25 performance is considered iconic and thirty years later, people still talk about how it was exactly what America needed at that moment in time.

Super Bowl 25 remains in the memory of every football fan because the New York Giants won after Scott Norwood of the Buffalo Bills kicked his last-second field goal WIDE RIGHT. Until that point, the Bills had been dominating the game.

New Yorkers loved Whitney Houston and not just because she sang the National Anthem before the Giant's Super Bowl Win. Whitney performed a few times at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga and the official music video for her song Didn't We Almost Have It All was filmed at SPAC.

One of my friends who grew up in the Saratoga area told me her story of being at SPAC for Whitney's 1999 concert and said when Whitney started to sing "I Will Always Love You", the crowd literally went silent, that you could hear a pin drop.
