I bet many of you can relate to this story.  Last night, I was woken from a delicious slumber by the incessant calls of a bird right outside my open window that wouldn't give up.  I woke up around 1am and it (presumably the same bird) was still singing it's obnoxious song at 4am!

You are probably wondering why I didn't just close the window.  Most people would do that.  I am not most people.  When it's above 40 degrees (or around there) I need my window open for fresh air.  It helps me sleep since I get very warm at night and that wakes me up.  In this case, it might have been better to take my chances with the heat but I kept thinking that the bird was eventually going to tire out and shut up.  That was certainly NOT the case!

So here's the big question...what bird sings all night?  This is a new one for me since I can't ever remember having this experience before. My memory probably just stinks because after doing some digging and some listening to bird calls, I think I have pinpointed the winged culprit of my disturbed slumber: the Northern Mockingbird.

Come to find out, this little guy is quite a singer and can chirp a large variety of sounds.  Check out the above video and you'll be amazed.  It imitates the calls of other birds. What a pretender!  That's pretty sneaky.  Also, in Spring, they love to sing their mating song all night.  Good grief! How many more nights must I endure this? No matter what kind of bird is outside my window, chirping at night, you'd better believe that from now on that window is getting closed, at least until mating season is over.
