The Oneonta Murder Investigation Continues Plus The Weekly Crime Report
All crimes described in police media releases are allegations. Named suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Authorities are still investigating the stabbing murder of 24-year-old Kaleb O’Neill in an Oneonta alley. Local and state police are “working every angle of the case,” Oneonta Police Chief Chris Witzenburg said. No suspects or motive have been publicly identified.
65-year-old Diane Bevins of Stamford was killed in a vehicle crash. She was driving her SUV when it collided in Davenport with a Trailways bus driven by 44-year-old Joanna Reedman. Reedman and Aris Vavasis, a passenger in the SUV, were injured in the accident. The state police investigation is continuing.
Otsego County deputies arrested Douglas Ostrander, 37, of Roseboom. Ostrander is accused of multiple instances of sexual intercourse and sexual conduct with a minor. The abuse is alleged to have occurred in the Towns of Milford, Cherry Valley and Roseboom. Ostrander was being held in the Otsego County jail pending a bail hearing.
The Yogi Food Mart in Esperance and the Smithville General Store in Smithville Flats are alleged to have sold alcoholic beverages to an underage person working with state troopers. Sting operations were conducted by state police in Chenango, Otsego and Schoharie counties. 21 businesses were checked. Two clerks were issued appearance tickets for selling alcohol to people under 21.
