New York toughens penalties for those intentionally causing traffic accidents to make fraudulent insurance claims.According to Governor Cuomo's Office, it’s now a Class E felony to cause the accident and a Class D felony if injuries occur. The legislation is named after Alice Ross, a devoted wife and grandmother, who was on her way to visit her daughter and grandchildren when her automobile was intentionally struck by another driver triggering a crash that resulted in her death.
