SUNY Oneonta Vaccine Site Shuts Down; Focus Shifts To Local Pop-up Sites
if you are not vaccinated for COVID-19 yet and were hoping to get your shot at SUNY Oneonta, a state-run mass vaccination site that has been in operation since this past March and delivering the Pfizer vaccine and later, the Janssen Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine, you'll have to get your vaccine elsewhere.
As of today, the SUNY Oneonta vaccine site is closed. New York State has shut down that location as efforts shift to more localized vaccine distribution. The transition reflects the state’s plan to focus resources on creating smaller pop-up vaccination clinics in locations where the vaccination rate is lower than the statewide average. In essence, vaccines will be distributed in rural communities where it's needed most and where access has been limited.
This announcement comes from Governor Cuomo following a recent celebration after New York State reached a vaccination rate milestone of 70%, with COVID-related restrictions almost all lifted across the state. Cuomo states, "We have to go where the need is greatest, and so many of our mass sites will gradually start downscaling so that we can use our resources to target communities where vaccination rates are still low."
All remaining state-run sites will continue to offer walk-in vaccinations for all eligible individuals. Click here to get the list of open mass vaccination sites.
