Silo Restaurant Burns to the Ground
An iconic Chenango County restaurant is in ashes following a spectacular four-alarm fire early November 28.
Chenango County Emergency Services officials say the first call about a fire at the Silo Restaurant at 203 Moran Road in Greene in the Town of Coventry came in shortly before 12:30 a.m. with second, third and fourth alarms being sounded within an hour.
Firefighters from several Broome County companies joined Coventry and other Chenango County units on the scene.
Chenango County dispatchers say the last fire units finally cleared from the scene at around 8:30 in the morning.
There were no reports of injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The restaurant, which has been the scene of hundreds of weddings, birthday parties and numerous other celebrations for decades was listed for sale one year ago.
Originally known as "Ye OIde Silo Restaurant", the cedar-shingle clad structure was built in 1967. It was previously heavily damaged by fire in May of 1985 but was rebuilt and reopened.
