NYSDOT Announces Traffic Signal Changes to Enhance Safety at the Intersection of Main and Chestnut Streets in City of Oneonta, Otsego County

Starting November 21, motorists and pedestrians will notice a change in the operation of the traffic signal at the intersection of Main Street and Chestnut Street in the City of Oneonta. The traffic signal has been optimized to enhance motorist and pedestrian safety.

Pedestrians will have additional lead time to begin crossing and clear the roadway before vehicles are released by the signal. Motorists in each direction will run separately through the intersection.

Motorists and pedestrians should be alert and ready to proceed through the intersection during their phase of the traffic signal. Motorists are required to yield to pedestrians when making turns.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for work zone infractions. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the driver’s license.
