NYSEG has released its work plan for today and expects to restore service to 95% of the affected customers by 11:30 PM today, with the exception of any customers in inaccessible areas or with damage to customer-owned equipment who will be restored through the weekend. Currently, approximately 9,100 customers are without power in the company’s Oneonta division which includes Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Greene, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie and Ulster counties. 4/21/22 NYSEG UPDATE:

NYSEG anticipates restoring service to 95% of the affected customers by 11:30 PM on Friday, April 22, with the exception of any customers in inaccessible areas or with damage to customer-owned equipment who will be restored through the weekend. Currently, approximately 20,300 customers in the company’s Oneonta division are without power. The Oneonta division includes Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Greene, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie, and Ulster counties.

Customers are reminded that dry ice and bottled water distribution locations are available throughout the area and are encouraged to visit the company’s website for the most up-to-date locations and hours of operation. Additional delivery of dry ice is expected this morning.

This morning, the Oneonta division of NYSEG which provides service in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Greene, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie, and Ulster counties, has provided an update on the large-scale damage to power lines and utility poles in those counties where about 33,300 customers remain without electricity this morning.

NYSEG states that those without power can expect it to take at least 24 hours for their power to be restored and unfortunately for some, it may be several days before their power can be restored due to the amount of damage sustained and the work that needs to be done.

NYSEG officials say that more than 340 wires were reported down yesterday, with 24 broken poles within the company’s Oneonta division territory. The hardest-hit areas within that territory were Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego Counties. The Deposit area was particularly hard hit with storm damage.

As you can imagine, crews need to focus first on restoring power to schools, cell phone towers, and the largest circuits serving the most customers. Area residents are warned to stay away from storm debris since downed power lines can be out of view, hidden underneath the snow. These power lines should be considered "live" with electricity and that means dangerous.
