There's a hidden treasure in Chapel Hall in Franklin, NY that the locals know about, but perhaps you haven't discovered it yet?  Chapel Hall houses Franklin Stage Company which is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing theater and performance art to all.  All shows are free, with donations gratefully accepted which funds the continuation of top-notch, professional theatrical performances.

You can catch two different shows this weekend:

FRIDAY JUNE 20th at 8pm - "MYTHOLOJAZZ"

"Two stories resonate together in this one magical piece of theatre. First, in a jazz-infused journey into the underworld, David Gonzalez plays a modern-day Orpheus who scats, swings and serenades his way through a gauntlet of ordeals in search of his beloved Eurydice. In the second story, a mash-up folktale drawn from South Korea and Ethiopia, with a smattering of Gonzalez' own Bronx history, a stepmother struggles to build her new family. Peppered with sassy street vernacular and modern-day references, Gonzalez brings these ancient stories to life. This performance is suitable for children but created for adults and families."

SATURDAY JUNE 21st at 10am - "AESOP BOPS!"

"Fast-paced, funny, and packed with audience participation, this show features Aesop's classic stories including The Lion and the Mouse, The Fisherman and His Wife, and The Turtle's Shell. This feast of funky, physical storytelling leaves young audiences feeling they have just performed the show too! Geared for children, but suitable for anyone and everyone 4 years & older."

Executive Director of Franklin Stage Co. Carmela Marner, talks below in detail about David Gonzalez and Franklin Stage Company's mission.

If you want to see either or both of these shows, it is highly recommended that you make reservations since Chapel Hall's theater's seating is very limited.  The number to call for information or tickets is (607) 829-3700.
