If you've been nervous about in-person voting over COVID-19 concerns in the upcoming general election, then you'll be happy to hear that Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a new law yesterday that makes getting an absentee ballot so much easier.  The state will now allow voters to request absentee ballots for the general election due to concerns over the risk of contracting illness, including the COVID-19 virus at polling places.

Voters need to fill out an application to request an absentee ballot. Otsego County residents can do that by visiting the county Board of Elections page at https://www.otsegocounty.com/departments/board_of_elections/index.php, by calling and requesting an application at 607-547-4247 or by emailing boe@otsegocounty.com.

For Chenango County residents, access an absentee ballot at
https://www.elections.ny.gov/NYSBOE/download/voting/AbsenteeBallot-English.pdf.

Absentee ballots must be postmarked by election day, November 3.

The possible backlash of a tremendous increase in absentee ballots in the November election is that counting them could result in election results being delayed for weeks which happened during the June primary elections.
