I do not have a very good track record (no pun intended) when it comes to gambling.  I have almost always lost so I don't seek out participation in any type of gambling for that reason, except on rare occasions.

This past weekend, I was meeting up with some friends from college in Saratoga.  It seemed only natural that we visit Saratoga Raceway and after that rock it out at Saratoga Performing Arts Center to the music of the Allman Brothers Band and Santana.

I actually won a few races thanks to the advice of my coworker Big Chuck from WDOS who said that he likes to bet on the favorite to win and the long shot to show.  It worked well enough for me. I ended up with a few extra dollars in my pocket and a big grin on my face which is all I could have asked for.  Just so you know, I was completely expecting to lose and was fine with that.  I would have had a great time no matter how my ponies placed but winning certainly does put extra spring into your step.

As for the Allman Brothers Band...FANTASTIC!  They sounded very tight and played some of my favorite songs: "Statesboro Blues" and "Midnight Rider".  They even played one of my favorite Van Morrison tunes, "Into the Mystic".  Loved it!

If you ever get a chance to see the Allman Brothers, don't miss it!

Now, you may be wondering why I'm not mentioned Santana since they were the featured artist at SPAC friday night.  Well, as bad luck would have it, I had to leave the show right after the Allman Brothers Band to rush off to Bassett Hospital to meet up with my daughter who broke her arm in two places and needed surgery.  Aiy!  One good note on leaving early, I missed the major traffic jam getting out of there.  There's always an upside,  and by the way, my daughter went through surgery just fine and prognosis seems good.
