Five Thanksgiving Rules to Live By
Sam Sifton, a former New York Times restaurant critic, has a book out called "Thanksgiving: How To Cook It Well". He offers six tips on how to have a great Thanksgiving:
1. Have a turkey. Not a duck, not a goose, not roast beef, but turkey.
2. No appetizers, no salads. The plate should be full of turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy, cranberries, green beans - there is no place - or no need - for appetizers or salad.
3. If someone wants to watch football, let them. Football is a Thanksgiving tradition.
4. Pie. Make pie, but not a chocolate pie. Chocolate pie is for after Thanksgiving, when you're depressed.
5. Clean up before bed. You have plenty of people to help you, so delegate.
