Childish Gambino Wins Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series at 2017 Golden Globe Awards
Childish Gambino made it two for two at the at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards when he took home the trophy for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. His TV series Atlanta secured him his first trophy of the night, while his leading role in the same show won him the second.
Beating out actors like Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), Gael García Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle), Nick Nolte (Graves) and Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent), Gambino added yet another victorious chapter in the success story that is Atlanta. The show follows his character Earnest "Earn" Marks, his rap star cousin and their eccentric friend as they make their way through the maze that is the music industry--or, at least, try to actually get into that maze in the first place.
Childish was thankful for his second award of the night, and took the time to shout-out his Atlanta cast, Paul Simms, his "Nigerian brothers" and the actors and actresses that inspired him when he was just a kid. "I really want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press and FX. You guys, thank you so much," the Awaken, My Love! artist said in his acceptance speech. "I grew up in a house where magic wasn't allowed, so everybody in here is like magical to me. Like everytime I saw a movie or Disney movies or heard your voices or saw you I was like, 'Oh magic is from people,'"he continued. "We're the ones who kind of--in a real way--tell a story, or lie to children so they do stuff that we never thought was possible."
Childish's wins tonight are a perfect way to start off what should be a very successful 2017. Keep it locked with XXL for more updates on Childish and Atlanta.
