Chenango County Farm Bureau president Bradd Vickers was among other Farm Bureau members from the southern tier who attended the "Farm Bill Now" rally in Washington D.C. this week.

The group met with most of New York legislators and participated in senator Kristen Gillabrand's New York Farm Day reception.

The two-day visit involved discussing passage of the Farm Bill with senator Charles Schumer, senator Gillibrand's office and other downstate legislators. The current Farm Bill expires on Sept. 30.

Farmers have struggled through the worst drought in a generation resulting in poor crop production and the slaughters of herds of cattle. The bill would help alleviate the strain.

Also discussed were concerns over the Clean Water Act expansion and year-end tax extensions.
