Before spring hits and while trees are dormant, it's a good time to prune many types of trees to promote health and spring growth. According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, it's especially important to prune oak trees now, to minimize the risk of oak wilt fungus because oak wilt and the beetles that spread the disease are dormant now.
