I've been listening to a lot of classic Christmas songs lately but there's only one that still gives me goose bumps due to its powerful message: Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas", from 1984.

The Band Aid song project, featured mostly British and Irish musicians and recording artists.  It was the brainchild of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, who wanted to raise money for anti-poverty efforts in Ethiopia by releasing that song. "Do They Know It's Christmas" was recorded at Sarm West Studios in Notting Hill, London, on November 25th, 1984 and released in the UK four days later. That single soon went on to become the Christmas number one. There were two more recordings to support the Ethiopia cause which also topped the charts.
