This family friendly program demonstration will benefit recreational paddlers, rowers, and sailors by teaching them how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species while they enjoy being out on the water.

Participants will earn to identify various aquatic invasive species that threaten our region’s waters, how they are transported, and how to take precautions to ensure boats are clean to prevent these destructive species from invading our waters. Invasive species pose a plethora of problems to our natural resources, ecosystem and human health, and economy.

Lake Stewards trained by CRISP (Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership) will
give a short presentation followed by a hands on demonstration on how to properly
inspect and clean different vessels, including kayaks, paddleboards, rowing sculls, and
sail boats.

The free program is in collaboration with Otsego Land Trust, CRISP, Otsego Area
Rowers, Canoe and Kayak Rentals and Sales, Otsego Lake Association, Otsego Sailing Club, Otsego County Conservation Association, and Canadarago Lake Improvement Association.
