Apply Now For Sheriff’s Youth Summer Camp Program

All kids should be able to experience the fun times of a youth summer camp at least once in their life.  But, to some, that is an expense that many families just cannot afford.  A summer Sheriff's youth camp might be just the answer you are looking for.

The New York State Sheriff's Institute is now working with local agencies across the state to recruit applicants for the department's summer camp.  The Honorary Membership Drive in Delaware County, is underway.

The Sheriff's Institute Summer Camp is a wonderful opportunity for young people ages 9-12, who for various reasons, are unable to afford a summer camp experience to  enjoy a safe camp environment.  The camp, located in the Finger lakes, is a project of the state's sheriff's agency and the department's deputies from all over the state play a big part in the camping experience.

While the focus is on fun during camp, the youth will also be mentored by the deputy sheriffs on all sort of life challenges.  The officers become friends with the kids at camp and they become a significant part of the daily camp routine. They give demonstrations on police equipment and techniques and answer all of the kids questions.  Each week a deputy sheriff will make a presentation on drug use and the dangers of ilicit drug use.  A K-9 demonstration as well as a scuba demonstration are two of the most popular with camp attendees.

The camp has six individual one-week sessions.  It is located on beautiful Keuka Lake and was once a large YMCA summer camp.
