Twinkies, the only snack that can survive a nuclear winter (kidding), returns to shelves next week with a longer shelf life (if that's possible).

Unbeknownst to us, Twinkies used to expire after 26 days, which means the ones we have had in our pantry since 1974 are probably ready to be tossed. Now, though, Hostess made an undisclosed change that will give Twinkies a 45-day shelf life.

The New York Post reported last week that the company will also freeze some of the cakes to further extend shelf life. We're thinking into the next century.

Stores will receive Twinkies frozen so they can stamp their own expiration date on the boxes.

Are you excited for their return?
