In order to cut through some red tape and speed power restoration, the Town of Hancock has declared a State of Emergency as the community continues to be without power.

Power went out late Monday night in Hancock and has not returned, despite the efforts of NYSEG, which has not put a timetable on power restoration.

This move allows additional money to a cooperative effort between NYSEG and Hancock Telephone Company to clear debris from power lines. The State of Emergency does not affect travel through Hancock.

The State of Emergency is in effect immediately and will remain intact until further notice.
