Throwback Winter Activity Is Alive and Well In Cooperstown, NY

As a kid, I was always a big fan of ice skating. Anyone who lives in Central New York knows that winters can be long and ice skating, among other outdoor winter activities, helped me to enjoy the cold weather of the season. Just when I thought ice skating was a throwback thing to do, I find out that it's alive and well in Cooperstown's Badger Park located at 87 Beaver Street in the village. The Cooperstown Friends of the Parks has announced the opening of the outdoor rink this coming Sunday, December 5.

Don't have skates? No problem! Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, over 100 pairs of skates have been sharpened and are ready for use at the Badger Park rink. Plus, volunteers have improved the rink with fresh paint and made necessary repairs.

Badger Park Rink Hours:
(weather permitting)
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 3 pm – 7 pm mixed-use
Tuesday, Thursday: 3 pm – 6 pm mixed-use, 6:30 pm – 9 pm hockey
Weekends and holidays: 10 am – 12 pm family skate, 12:30 pm – 6:30 pm mixed-use

If you live in the Oneonta area, you should be aware that Fortin Park will not have ice skating this year in the old airplane hanger, according to the Fortin Park Ice Rink Facebook page. There's no word yet on skating in Neahwa Park in the City of Oneonta but we'll keep you updated.
