SUNY Oneonta will host the Oneonta Walk for Kidneys on Sunday, Oct. 21, to benefit the Northeast Kidney Foundation.

All are welcome to participate in the walk, which will begin at 11 a.m. at the Alumni Field House on campus. There is a minimum donation of $5 per walker.

The event will feature a Halloween theme complete with games, prizes, children’s activities and entertainment. The walk aims to raise awareness of kidney disease, its causes and prevention, and the need for organ donation.

According to the northeast kidney foundation:

  • 26 million people nationwide have kidney disease, and most of them don’t know it.
  • Anyone with diabetes or high blood pressure is at risk.
  • Every five minutes, someone’s kidneys fail.
  • 95,000 people in the United States are waiting for a kidney transplant.
