In a press release today,,Sheriff Craig DuMond announced that a Stamford man succumbed to a cardiac emergency that occurred while he was driving on Braehead Road in the Town of Kortright Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 2020.

At approximately 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Bloomville Fire Department and EMS personnel and AMR Ambulance, responded to a 911 report of a vehicle off the roadway with unknown injuries.

Upon their arrival, emergency medical personnel discovered the driver was in cardiac arrest and immediately began emergency lifesaving treatment and summoned a LifeNet medi-vac helicopter to the scene. Efforts to resuscitate the driver, identified as 67-year-old John P. Mason, of Stamford, NY, were unsuccessful.

Investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies, Criminal Investigators and Delaware County Medical Examiner Dr. Richard J. Ucci, M.D., determined that Mason, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle and not injured as a result of the accident, suffered a fatal cardiac related emergency while driving and drifted off the roadway and into a ditch.

EMS personnel were also assisted at the scene by LifeNet flight crew members.
