The Otsego County health department reports that six animals, including two cats, have tested positive for rabies so far this year in Otsego County.

The latest was a cat from Unadilla that tested positive on July 11. Four people were started on rabies post exposure treatment due to bites from the cat.

Exposure to rabies can be minimized by having all pets vaccinated and staying away from all wild animals, especially those acting abnormally. For more information, call the Otsego County health department at 607-547-4230.
