U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has joined with two other senators to implement changes on laws requiring warnings when businesses plan to shut down, leaving workers without jobs. The Fair Warning Act would expand provisions of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988 including requiring advance notice from companies who have less than 50 employees and redefining what constitutes a mass layoff and a site closing. Earlier this year, Friendly’s in Oneonta closed with no warning to its employees.
