Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin, Jr. issued a statement following Thursday’s series of news conferences across the state where law enforcement called on the Legislature and the Governor to address serious concerns to New York’s new bail and discovery laws taking effect January 1st. Devlin provided a list of more than 200 crimes for which a defendant cannot be sent to jail after arraignment under the new laws. Devlin says he has little doubt that these new laws will have a negative impact on public safety.
