For the first time in the history of Oneonta High School, baseball takes home a state championship.

As heard on WZOZ and WZOZFM.com, the Yellow Jackets first defeated Wayland-Cohocton, 8-4, in the Class B semifinal behind the pitching of Michael Calkins and Connor Youngs.

But it was the second game, the championship, that proved the most exciting game of the afternoon. Ben Moxley out-dueled Briarcliff for a four-hit shutout.

Offensively, Calkins drilled a solo homer and Oneonta tacked on another run late in the game. Mark Giallanzo also preserved the shutout by throwing out a runner at home in the sixth inning.

Moxley retired the side in order in the seventh and Oneonta won its first baseball state title.
