Oneonta Police are warning of a scam where a city resident received a letter telling them they won a Mega Millions jackpot in Spain. The information looks legitimate and the letter had a Spain postmark. It asks that the recipient call a Madrid number to make arrangements to claim the prize. Police say scams like this succeed because they look so real. Be sure to keep your personal details secure and never send money or give your credit card information to anyone you don’t know and trust. Below is a copy of the scam letter.

If you suspect that you have been a victim of a scam or an attempted scam, contact the NYS Attorney General's office and use their online complaint form: ag.ny.gov/complaint-forms.
