The Oneonta Police Department wants residents to be aware of several phone scams that have been reported recently. If you receive calls from someone saying they are from social security and need your number, someone calling as an attorney of a relative who has been arrested and needs bail, or someone calls and states they’re a relative, but have a cold and that's why they sound different, you’re probably being scammed.

Police advise to never give out personal information, like credit card numbers, never agree to purchase gift cards to send off, and be sure and notify local law enforcement about what you experienced.
