NYS Police Increased Patrols During July 4 Holiday

The New York State Police have announced that they will increase patrols to crack down on drunk and drugged driving and other traffic infractions over the Fourth of July holiday.  This includes various sobriety checkpoints and targeting reckless and aggressive driving to keep the roads safe for travelers.

The Independence Day holiday is known to be one of the busiest travel times during the year and the increased State Police patrols is on now through Friday, July 5. Last year, the State Police issued nearly 10,500 vehicle and traffic tickets during the 4th of July weekend. Troopers arrested 216 people for DWI and investigated 165 crashes, which resulted in four fatalities and 244 injuries.

Keep in mind that drivers should always "move over" for stopped emergency and hazard vehicles when they travel New York roadways. You can receive a ticket for not doing so.
