To accelerate the best medical care for injured workers and reduce medical costs, the New York State Workers' Compensation Board Thursday proposed regulations to improve the medical treatment guidelines adopted in 2010.

The proposed changes will adopt guidelines for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, the most common work-related occupational disease in New York.

It will allow more disputes to be decided by the board's medical director, define clear limitations and criteria for maintenance treatment such as chiropractic care and physical therapy and to simplify and improve administrative process and procedures.
