Now I've heard of many different ways of meeting that someone special: singles nights, speed dating, and internet dating come to mind, but I've never heard of "weed dating" until now.

This has become an annual event in Boise Idaho where one night a year, The Earthly Delights Farm holds "Weed Dating" night. They invite singles to come work in their fields, and get a chance to meet other singles. Casey O'Leary, 33, owns the Earthly Delights Farm and first heard of the idea from other farms who hold similar weed dating events. O'Leary said more than 40 men and women showed up for this year's weed dating.

Here's how it works: Each of the ladies are assigned to a specific row. They are instructed in how to identify a weed versus a vegetable or fruit, and then instructed to pass that information along to the men, who rotate from each field every three minutes.

What a genus way for a farm to get free workers for a night!  I must say that at first glance, weeding and meeting someone doesn't seem very fun but it could give you much more insight into a prospective mate than the singles night scene.  After all, you can certainly find out what kind of work ethic someone has by how many weeds their pulling.  If you're looking for a potential husband who will help around the house with chores, look for the guy who's pulling the most weeds.

Who knows, maybe some farm here in the Northeast will pick up on this idea.  Look for weed dating in a field near you.
