A former city of Oneonta man was arrested last week by investigators following a joint narcotics investigation between the Otsego County sheriff’s office criminal investigation division and the Oneonta Police Department detective bureau.

Jose David Quiles, 30, of Curtis Bay, Maryland, was charged Friday with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony.

In May 2011, crack cocaine was allegedly purchased from Quiles in Oneonta. In August 2011, Quiles was indicted by an Otsego County grand jury, and a sealed indictment warrant of arrest was issued.

On September 30, 2012, Quiles was stopped by the New Jersey State Police on the New Jersey Turnpike for traffic violations. A subsequent computer license revealed that Quiles was wanted by the Otsego County sheriff’s office on the warrant.

Quiles was arrested by the New Jersey State Police as a fugitive from justice and taken to the Middlesex County corrections center.

Quiles was brought back to the Otsego County correctional facility and held until he was arraigned on Monday for the drug charge before Judge John Lambert, where bail was set at $25,000. If convicted, Quiles faces up to 9 years in prison for the drug sale.
