I have been a huge fan of movies for as long as I can remember. My first experiences were watching Disney movies at the Fox Theatre in Corning New York and the Drive-In in Painted Post, both now long gone.

My answer for a relaxing day is to watch a movie either from my DVD collection or from a streaming service. I should get back to the movie theaters though since that's really the best way to enjoy the full experience of a movie.

With the Oscar Awards just handed out, I thought it would be interesting to pose this question on social media - "In your opinion, what is that one movie that defines your generation?" I thought it might jog some memories, and I was right.

I am from the Baby Boomer generation. According to AARP, some of the movies that define this generation include 'The Graduate', 'The Godfather', 'Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid', 'Star Wars', 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'American Graffiti', 'M*A*S*H', 'Jaws', 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind', and 'Dirty Harry.' All great classics.

So what about your generation? Here's what the Southern Tier of New York and Northeast Pennsylvania had to say:

  • Lonnie Z. - Warriors.
  • Harold S. - Beautiful Girls. It was relevant when it came out, and it's relevant today. The only difference is which character I identify with.
  • Bruce B. - Blazing Saddles.
  • Mary F., Carol C., Matt O., Eric E. & Tom C. - The Breakfast Club.
  • Angie S. & Michael R. - Dazed and Confused.
  • Scott H. - Alien. It changed the Sci-Fi horror genre forever.
  • Anthony F. Jr. - Can't Hardly Wait - 1998 teen classic movie with stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ethan Embry, Peter Facinelli, and Seth Green.
  • Bill A. - Animal House (Yes, I can relate to that movie!)
  • Josie C. - Blazing Saddles.
  • Mike V. - The Hangover.
  • Sean W.- Repo Man.
  • Monica B. - Dirty Dancing.
  • Li N.- Porkys.
  • Matt D. - Braveheart.
  • Mike G. - Dirty Harry.
  • Todd M. Valerie S., Dave M. & Michael R. - Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
  • Jennifer M.- The Godfather.
  • Lori W. - Saturday Night Fever.
  • Greg V. - Full Metal Jacket.
  • Paul W. - Dumb and Dumber.
  • Amy R. - GooniesTracy O. - I'm a Goonie for life!
  • Sandie J. - Basically any John Hughes movie. Definitely The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, and Ferris Bueller.
Samuel B. - Back To The Future.
    David V. & Nancy B. - West Side Story.
Vernon Z. - I’m too young, but American Graffiti defined teenage life when America was at its peak. Like Milner said, “It’s all been downhill since Buddy Holly died.”
  • Amanda K. - Clueless.
  • Norman G. & Josh B. - Idiocracy.
  • Johni G. - Dirty Dancing.
  • Pat D. - Easy Rider or A Raisin’ in the Sun. Nancy B. & Lee C. - Easy Rider.
  • Kathy K.- I was a pre-teen to teen when Jaws (1975), Star Wars (1977) & Grease (1978) premiered. I would have to say that those 3 movies defined my generation.
  • Mary M. & Maggie S. - Star Wars.
  • Mike C. - The Exorcist.
  •  Annie D. - American History X.
  • Norm T. - Smokie and the Bandit.
