A sprawling estate, Uncas Lodge was built for hops dealer Simon Uhlmann in 1901. Uhlmann’s property sat on the shores of Otsego Lake in Cooperstown and in 1904, Uhlmann sold his estate to a man with a last name that might sound familiar: Busch. As in Adolphus Busch, co-founder of Anheuser-Busch.

German-born Adolphus Busch teamed up with his father-in-law, Eberhard Anheuser to create what has become the much loved American brewing company, in operation for over 165 years.

Hops were introduced to America sometime around 1630 by European settlers and by 1849, New York led the nation in hops production. By 1855, Otsego, Oneida, Madison, Schoharie, and Montgomery counties were producing the majority of the over three million pounds of hops produced in the state of New York annually. The Otsego hop was considered by many to be the very best in America which made it the perfect location for Busch to own a hops farm.

For 117 years, the estate has been owned by the Busch family and their descendants. However, the time has come for the property to slip into new hands.

Listed with Ellen O'Connor of Select Sotheby's International Realty, this estate (which has been added onto through the years) could be yours for $6,450,000. Boasting six bedrooms, six and a half baths and an astounding nine fireplaces, this 12,000 square foot property which sits on 18.8 acres with waterfront property on Otsego Lake is fit for royalty.
