It's hard to imagine a rain coming down so hard that it would cause a large building to completely collapse but that's exactly what happened yesterday to the 92-year-old Empire Hotel at 102 Willow Street in Sharon Springs, which had long been abandoned.  The hotel, once a resort for Hasidic Jews in Sharon Springs, had been vacant for 40 years and in the process of deterioration.  Tuesday night's hard rain was just too much for the four story structure and it collapsed in on itself yesterday afternoon with no injuries reported and remarkably, no off-site damage.

The absentee owner of the property is Spyridon Livathinos of Staten Island.
