It is a long time coming for Yankee fans. Finally "The Captain" Derek Jeter will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown today. For me, Derek Jeter will always be the best Yankee that ever played the game. I was fortunate six years ago to meet Derek Jeter and ask him a couple of questions. I even made "The Captain" laugh.

As a member of the press, I was invited to be part of a press conference at Siena College back in 2015 for Derek Jeter and his Turn 2 Foundation. The foundation that he created with his father was to help young people turn away from drugs and alcohol and turn to a healthy, more positive lifestyle. He was promoting the organization in the Capital Region.

It was a total last-minute invite and I wasn't sure what to expect. We went into a room with maybe ten other people and we waited for the future Hall of Famer to appear. His sister joined him because she is involved in the foundation as well. After he spoke about his mission, he opened the floor to questions. But instead of us staying in our seats, they allowed us to come right up to Jeter like we were in the locker room after a game.

A local sports reporter asked about his time as an Albany Colonie Yankee and I followed up with a quip that made Derek Jeter laugh. After the chuckle, I asked him if he had fond memories of playing here in Albany or was it a blur. Here's the audio of the questions and answers.

Today is the day that Derek Jeter will go into the Baseball Hall of Fame and I can always say that I made "The Captain" laugh. That's pretty cool.
