If you have been waiting to get your EZ Pass, when you head out on the Thruway next month, you will need it. The New York State Thruway Authority announced that their trial run has come to an end and they are ready to get started. I have been an EZ pass holder for many years and find it super convenient. We make several trips across the state on the Thruway to visit my fiancee's family in Buffalo. I am happy that the Thruway is doing cashless tolls. I found it inconvenient to have to stop or slow down to pay the toll.

According to WIVB.com, it was announced that after a thirty trial run of using the overhead EZ pass system, they are ready to launch the program statewide. The New York Thruway Authority says that it will begin in November.

There are fifty-eight locations set up near exits and entries across the state on the Thruway. They have seventy of those overhead gantries that also run along the New York State Thruway. They are each equipped with monitors, motion sensors, cameras, and lights.

Only seventy-five percent of Thruway drivers us EZ pass, There is now, more than ever, a state-wide campaign to get more drivers on board. If you use the Thruway but don't have an EZ pass, you will be mailed a collections letter according to your license plate.

With these cashless tolls comes with twelve hundred toll operators across the state offered different ways of keeping their jobs. Many were offered retraining, college incentives, and transfers to other departments. This started back in 2018.
