ONEONTA, N.Y. — More than 200 SUNY Oneonta freshmen will spend their first day in Oneonta volunteering at local nonprofit organizations.

SUNY Oneonta’s Center for Social Responsibility and Community will host its fifth annual Freshman Service Day on Monday From 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Students will volunteer at more than 15 sites performing activities ranging from helping Riverside Elementary School teachers organize classrooms to working with the Otsego County Conservation Association to remove water chestnuts threatening the ecosystem of an Oneonta swamp.

Working collaboratively with local nonprofits, CSRC connects students with volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Collectively, SUNY Oneonta students volunteer an average of 50,000 hours every year in collaboration with 94 different nonprofit agencies in Otsego County.
