SnapDragon and RubyFrost New York Apples Make Debut at Fruit Grower Field Days
SnapDragon and RubyFrost, two new apples that are headed for select farm stands, were unveiled Thursday by Cornell University and New York Apple Growers and the annual fruit grower field days in Geneva.
The apples spent more than a decade in development. SnapDragon is in the family of Honeycrisp apples and is described as crisp and juicy.
RubyFrost is very similar to Empire and Granny Smith apples, which are more tart.
New York Apple Growers holds the licensing agreement with Cornell, and will decide where it sells the apples. In the past, Cornell had publicly released the apples to all growers.
