Low-income New Yorkers and those with serious medical conditions will get relief from summer heat waves by getting an air conditioner through the annual homes and community renewal initiative.

The air conditioners are provided by $3 million in federal funding through the low-income Home Energy Assistance Program [HEAP].

Eligibility for the program is determined by HEAP income guidelines, having a household member with a chronic medical condition aggravated by heat, or by providing a doctor’s written documentation that air conditioning assistance is critical in preventing a heat emergency. In the Tri-town area you can call Opportunities for Otsego, Opportunities for Chenango, and Delaware County Opportunities.
