Cigarette Strike Force Seizes Millions In Contraband Tobacco
New York State’s Cigarette Strike Force reports $6.6 million worth of contraband tobacco was seized this year – a million dollars more than in 2016. Untaxed cigars made up the bulk of these confiscations along with more than 47,000 cartons of untaxed cigarettes and 134,000 counterfeit tax stamps.
Cigarette Strike Force investigators arrested 85 accused cigarette and tobacco smugglers who face more than $7 million in fines. The strike force was created in 2014.
