Beer & Wine

Get ready, Oneonta, because on March 1st, Downtown Oneonta is going to be filled with the sounds of live music, the beer will be flowing, and you'll smell delicious wafting aromas of fine food coming from festive warm tents.  The occasion?

Starting this Friday, Eric Malanaski and I will put your football knowledge to the test to win great prizes from the Red Jug Pub.  Eric will have an NFC/AFC football trivia question for you at about 8:45 Friday morning.

An annual favorite event that my family and I greatly enjoy is the "Taste of the Catskills Festival" at Maple Shade Farm in Delhi, NY.  It's coming up this Saturday and Sunday, October 12th and 13th starting at 10am each day.  The best part is that the focus of the event is on featuring great local entertainment, products, services, and of course my favorite, food!

October is here and that means plenty of Ocktoberfest beer drinking opportunities.  It's a season that beer lovers everywhere enjoy for obvious reasons.  With all this beer flowing, there are so many choices out there!  Did you know that what kind of beer you drink says something about you as a person?

Most people know that Matt Brewing Company in Utica, NY makes the popular Saranac beer, but growing up, Utica Club beer brewed by that same company, was a staple in our house.  My dad has always been a big fan of that locally made beer.

We all know that eggnog gets the nod as "the" holiday drink of the season and I must admit that I've never been a big fan, at least not until now.  I have discovered the "ultimate" eggnog drink after some experimenting.  I was inspired by a Food Network recipe that I found on-line and then tweaked it to please.

So I recently had a conversation with friends about what "Oneonta really needs" and some interesting answers came out:

I came up with this recipe by accident like many of the best things seem to be discovered. The story goes, I had about a quarter-pound of ground turkey, one slice of smoked deli turkey and scraps from chopping onions and peppers from a morning omelet...

Combine art, music, food, face painting, wine and sidewalk chalk and what do you get?  "Fabulous First Friday" in Downtown Oneonta of course.  Tomorrow night, from 5pm to 8pm, you can enjoy all of those things on Oneonta's Main Street and at a few venues just off Main Street.
