Could New York State drop the legal limit for driving while intoxicated from .08 to .05?  A bill introduced in the assembly proposes to do just that. Brooklyn assemblyman Félix Ortiz is the sponsor of the legislation and in a news release he says the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine recently concluded that lowering the limit to .05 could bring down the 10,000 alcohol impaired deaths each year. Only Utah has reduced its legal blood alcohol level to .05 and that takes effect later this year.
