The Utica Zoo is joining in on the Super Bowl fun this year by having their animals predict the winner. It isn’t just one animal who has the magic at the zoo though. Every animal is getting their chance to decide whether they want the Los Angeles Rams or the Cincinnati Bengals holding up the Lombardi Trophy.
Super Bowl 2022 Painted Dog ChoiceWith Super Bowl LVI coming up in one week (and with the game being between 2 animal themed teams) we thought it would be fun to "ask" some of our animals who they think will win by giving them some appropriate enrichment to choose between! First up, our African Painted Dogs. While the group chose the Rams at first, Charlie made a quick switch to the Bengals. Soon after, Ada and Rosie ditched the Rams in a snowdrift before joining Charlie with her choice. While this prediction might seem undeterminable on first glance, allow us to translate: Charlie, Ada, and Rosie think that the Rams will start off with a quick lead in the game, but will fall behind as the game progresses ending in the Bengals becoming the 2022 NFL champions! The first round of predictions went to the Zoo’s African Painted Dogs. Their names are Charlie, Ada, and Rosie. The group seemingly all chose the Rams at first, but they all made a quick switch to the Bengals shortly after. According to the Utica Zoo “translators”, the dogs believe the Rams will come out with a quick lead but will end up falling short, leaving the Bengals on top.
Staff at the Utica Zoo were inspired to do the predictions this year because of who’s in the big game. The last time two NFL teams with animal themed names met in the Super Bowl was 6 years ago in 2016. That was when Peyton Manning led the Denver Broncos to victory against the 15-1 Carolina Panthers. (FUN FACT: The Super Bowl MVP that year was Von Miller, who was traded this season to the L.A. Rams)
Super Bowl 2022 Cotton Top Tamarin ChoiceAnd we are back with another Super Bowl prediction! Yesterday our Painted Dogs predicted that the Begnals would be the winner in Super Bowl LVI. Today, let's see what our Cotton Top Tamarins say! How you ask? Well it's not an exact science but we strung up 2 enrichment items in the Tamarin habitat and monitored how Dharma, Tom, and Sawyer interacted with them. Afterward, we consulted with our "expert team of Tamarin translators" to figure out what our Cotton-Topped friends were trying to tell us. Here is what we have concluded:After some careful deliberation, the first of the enrichments that Dharma, Tom, and Sawyer went to was for the Rams. However, they quickly moved on and explored what the Bengals had to offer. Then after some careful back and forth examination, all 3 of our Tamarins combined their efforts to really go to town on the Bengals enrichement. What does this mean? Our Tamarins are telling us that while the Rams will start off with a quick lead in the beginning, it won't last. The second prediction came this Monday from a different animal. The Cotton Top Tamarins were given the choice between both teams. This time two enrichment items were tied from the tree for Dharma, Tom, and Sawyer. The “translators” say the Tamarin’s deliberated back and forth between the two teams, but in the end went with the Bengals as the winners. So far the Cincinnati Bengals are up 2-0!
Super Bowl LVI Transcaspian Urial ChoiceFor today's Super Bowl LVI predicition we asked our Transcaspian Urials – Aankhen, Pyari, and Samina – who they thought would be 2022's NFL champions. While we had our "translators" on hand expecting to need their expertise, our Urials were a lot more decisive than our Painted Dogs and Tamarins.
