Without knowing anything about the movie itself, the title sounds, well, dumb. 'Days of Future Past' reads like a line pulled from some bad Tumblr poetry. It's almost (but not quite) as bad as 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon.' Having said all that, the new trailer for 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' makes us forget about the stupid title completely (at least until we have to type it out again).

The movie's director, Bryan Singer, may be seeking redemption for leaving the X-Men franchise with inferior direction. 'X-Men: The Last Stand' was an embarrassing follow-up to the first two films. We're not saying Singer is to blame for this because he left to direct 'Superman Returns,' but we're not not saying that either.

But if this latest X-movie delivers on the promises given to us by this newest trailer, then we'll feel comfortable forgiving Singer. In the trailer, characters from the original X-trilogy and 2011's 'X-Men: First Class' are united across space and time to prevent humanity's annihilation.

This will also mark the first appearance (ignoring the sad cameo of a Sentinel head in X3) of the dreaded Sentinel robots, a longtime staple of all X-related comics.

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' (ugh) arrives in theaters May 23.
